Objective: to analyze epidemiological aspects of HIV in the male population of Alagoas between 2008-2018. Methodology: This is an ecological study of time series, using secondary HIV data recorded in the Notifiable Diseases Information System. Data analysis was performed using the JoinPoint program. Results: The HIV diagnosis rate in Alagoas between 2008 and 2018 fluctuated between 12.85/100 thousand inhabitants in 2009 and 18.85 / 100 thousand inhabitants in 2017. In the analysis, the regression model showed only a temporal behavior: in the total period (2008 to 2018) (Annual Percent Change: 2.4; 95% Confidence Interval: 0.1 to 4.7; p: 0.0001), presented an increasing trend. When schooling is taken into account, the series with the highest rates of HIV diagnosis in the population studied were: “Complete High School” (1.9/100 thousand inhabitants) and “5th to 8th Incomplete Series” (1.8/100 thousand inhabitants). As for the form of transmission, Heterosexual was the one with the highest rate (5.7/100 thousand inhabitants), followed by the Ignored form (5.4/100 thousand inhabitants). Conclusion: The results point to the need for greater emphasis on male health care in terms of HIV prevention, especially in the heterosexual population, that seems to be more vulnerable.
