This article discusses the potential for rural tourism in the Paula Pereira region of Canoinhas/SC. The study identified the main tourist activities and proposed a strategy to develop rural and fishing tourism in the region. The research was conducted using a snowball questionnaire method with 83 sports practitioners. The region attracts tourists for activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, and historical buildings. The proposed strategy involves developing leisure and tourism structures, such as inns, restaurants, and campsites, as well as investing in infrastructure and tourism signage. This study highlights the importance of local tourism diagnosis, challenges in public policies, and the need for prerequisites such as basic infrastructure and accessibility. Rural tourism development should involve the community, value local cultural aspects, and avoid damage to the environment. This article presents a discussion on the sustainable development of fishing tourism in the Northern Santa Catarina region.
